The Esper levels don't allow this that I can see, and while Sabin can still crank damage it's much more necessary to utilize his blitzes to do so, and on that note I've found in BNW he functions more like a tank and support character, soaking up attacks and shrugging off status effects (I think stamina or vigor now plays a role in determining that chance) while I use mantra to keep everybody else still standing to crank out damage. As an example, my boy Sabin in normal FF6 often would turn into my genji glove offering wielding destroyer, especially after leveling up with Odin to crank his speed to ludicrous heights. Which makes thematic sense), but it definitely specializes characters in a way they weren't before. I wish there was at least a little bit broader of application(certain characters can only equip certain Espers, no one can do all but Terra and Celes have by far the most. A lot of bad guys have attacks that seem to deal proportional or percentage damage or something, so a lot of easy fights are now deals where you need to put a bit of thought into to knock them out, or at the least you can't just hold down A to smash out some pesky Leafers as you could before.Įsper changes are interesting. The difficulty of fights is interesting because it essentially makes grinding impossible. Dialogue changes I'm mostly meh on because the swearing seems unnecessary and any other changes to dialogue I didn't notice. More broadly, the mod is kinda cool though not without its faults. I think I remember reading they really cranked its difficulty up on that fight to give it the epic feel an end game boss should, since Atma is the fake out penultimate boss on the floating continent. Atma weapon was so hard it took me probably 45 minutes to beat once I had more of a system in place to keep my people alive. He's dang near impossible to beat though perhaps I just haven't figured out a trick to it. I've got a playthrough currently in the world of ruin, just at picking up Umaro. If/when I pick it up again I might try to Clean New World version mentioned in another comment in order to get that more nostalgic feel in the dialogue. *edit/TLDR: Give it a shot if you enjoy FF6 and are looking for a reason to play something that's essentially oldschool, but more engaging on the combat side, if rather punishingly so.
